We’re here to answer all your questions about your baby’s gut health, including “does my baby need a probiotic?” and “what’s the best baby probiotic?”. Read on for all the research and recommendations.

As moms, we naturally want to give our babies the very best start, right from day one. We research the best diapers, car seats, swaddles and mattresses, and make sure they’re gaining enough weight and hitting all their baby “benchmarks”.

But there’s an important element of our babies’ health that is often overlooked: their gut health.

Gut health is a buzzword you’ve probably heard before, and while it’s important for everyone to consider, it’s even more critical for babies in the first 6 months of their lives, when their immune system and metabolism are in key developmental stages.

Bad bacteria in your baby’s gut can lead to a higher risk of issues like colic, eczema, allergies, diabetes and obesity. So it’s imperative that we become educated and learn what we can do to make sure their gut heath is thriving with good bacteria instead.

But what exactly is baby gut health? And how can something like probiotics help?

We’ve teamed up with what we believe to be the best baby probiotic on the market, Evivo, to provide you with all the information you need to know about the importance of good gut health in your baby, and the simple solution to reduce bad bacteria.

Because what you do (or don’t do) to boost your baby’s gut health in their first months, can start them on the right path for the rest of their life.

(and get this: once that bad bacteria is reduced, it can greatly help any issues your baby may have, like fussiness from gas, diaper rash, sleep patterns and more!) Totally worth a read, right?!

PIN for when you’re ready to heal your baby’s gut

BABY GUT HEALTH 101

When babies are born, the first bacteria they receive for their gut microbiome is transferred from the mother. However, due to modern medical practices, like the increased use of antibiotics and C-sections, 9 out of 10 babies don’t acquire the beneficial gut bacteria, B. infantis, at birth. And that means more bad bacteria is able to thrive, which has been linked to conditions no mother would hope for their child: allergies, eczema and diabetes to name a few.

Luckily, there is a way to improve a baby’s gut health. Scientists at the University of California Davis discovered that reintroducing B. infantis to a baby’s gut can reduce bad bacteria by 80% and restore its health to how Mother Nature intended it to be: with good bacteria creating a strong, protective wall.

HOW PROBIOTICS CAN HELP

Probiotics are living microorganisms – good bacteria that can boost your health and rebuild your gut microbiome. Taking the right probiotic can be extremely beneficial. And yes, there are even probiotics made just for babies.

However, if you search for an infant probiotic, your head will no doubt be spinning – it’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the claims, and confused by the differing information about various bacteria strains.

That’s where we come in.

After researching, testing, and talking with our pediatricians, we recommend the baby probiotic, Evivo.

 WHY EVIVO?

Evivo contains activated B. infantis, a strand of good bacteria that has been scientifically found to be THE key player in baby gut health and developing a strong immune system. Furthermore, Evivo is the only baby probiotic that is clinically proven to restore baby’s gut to its original state. Can we get a sigh of relief for that?!

Feeding your baby Evivo mixed with breast milk once a day repopulate’s your baby’s gut with B. infantis, the good bacteria 90% of babies are missing. It reduces the amount of pathogenic bacteria linked to uncomfortable things like gas and eczema, and also provides a healthy gut for a lifetime of good health.

In a recent study:

  • Nearly half of moms claimed their baby’s nighttime sleep was longer/more consistent within the first few weeks after started Evivo.
  • 23% of moms noticed their baby’s diaper rash was less severe/completely cleared up within the first few weeks after starting Evivo.
  • 2 out of 3 moms claim their baby had less gas/fussiness within the first few weeks after starting Evivo.

Pretty powerful results, right?

When we tried it for ourselves, and talked to other moms who were currently using Evivo, we had some pretty epic results as well:

  • Our founder, Aly, noticed a significant reduction of her baby’s eczema on her cheeks and upper arms after just 1 week.
  • Sarah, mom to a 3-month old little girl, explained to us that her daughter’s extreme fussiness at nighttime completely disappeared, resulting in much longer stretches of uninterrupted sleep.
  • Brieanna, mom to a 5-month old boy, told us using Evivo was “a miracle…we were able to take him off his reflux medications and now he happily nurses without screaming from discomfort…he hardly ever spits up, and his stools are thicker so no more diaper rash!”
  • Jackie, mom to 8 week old twins, said “I was skeptical about infant probiotics but asked my pediatrician and she gave the green light. I’m glad I listened because my twins went from being extremely gassy and colicky, to the happiest little things in a matter of 2 weeks!…Evivo has been a total lifesaver”.

And we love that Evivo contains only Lactose and activated B. infantis. And that’s all! There’s no artificial colors, dyes, flavors or preservations, and it’s free of additives and gluten.

HOW TO USE EVIVO

Evivo is simple to use. The Starter Kit includes everything you need: a small mixing bowl, feeding syringe and the Evivo sachets.

First, pour one sachet of Evivo powder into the included mixing bowl. Add 3-5ml of breast milk and mix well. Load the syringe with the mixture and feed it to your baby.

And that’s it! One sachet a day is all baby needs to create a protective internal environment in baby’s gut.

STILL NOT SURE?

When we talked to moms in our local communities, we heard many myths about probiotics that we wanted to help clear up:

MYTH #1: My baby looks perfectly healthy, so their gut must be healthy too!

FACT: 9 out of 10 babies born in the US have a low-functioning gut microbiome due to the lack of good bacteria needed for a healthy gut.

MYTH #2: I just have to wait out my baby’s tummy troubles…they’ll outgrow it when they get older.

FACT: The first 6 months are critical for proper immune and metabolic development. Too much bad bacteria in their gut is linked to things such as asthma, eczema, allergies, diabetes and obesity.

MYTH#3: My baby doesn’t need a probiotic, she has no symptoms.

FACT: Probiotics are not just for fixing symptomatic conditions. They can repopulate a baby’s gut with the good bacteria they are missing, setting them up for good health later in life.

MYTH #4: There’s no proof that probiotics are really helpful.

FACT: Our recommended probiotic, Evivo, is the result of over a decade of research and clinical trials studying the importance of B. infantis in the gut.

MYTH #5: It doesn’t matter which probiotic I choose, they’re all the same.

FACT: Strain does matter. Evivo is the only baby probiotic clinically proven to be 100% effective in restoring B. infantis to baby’s gut while reducing bad bacteria by 80%.

And if you’re still unsure about whether or not you should give your baby probiotics, we always suggest discussing it with your child’s pediatrician.

Although we wish we could dive into our babies’ guts to see the extent of how Evivo is working, we can tell from the change in our children that it truly is making a difference.

Less fussiness, more giggles. Less dry skin, more soft and smooth cheeks. Less diaper rash, more solid poops. Less gassiness, longer periods asleep. And a happy baby equals a happy mama!
