Looking to reduce your stress in the morning and have your children be more independent? Our free printable Morning Routine Checklist can help!

Are mornings hectic at your house? Are you constantly reminding your kids to do the same things over and over?

“Honey, brush your teeth?”

“Did you make your bed?”

“Why aren’t you dressed yet?!”

“We’re going to be LATE!”

If this feels all too familiar, you’re not alone. Unlike adults, kids have yet to establish strong natural routines when they wake up. So what feels like clockwork to you (get up, go to the bathroom, brush teeth, get dressed, make bed, have breakfast, etc.) isn’t yet ingrained into your child’s “muscle” memory.

While you could do a lot of hand holding, nagging (see above), and giving instructions, we found there’s a better way to help your children establish a strong morning routine.

We’ve partnered with ForaCare, the healthcare technology specialists (and maker of our favorite IR42 thermometer…more on this later!), to bring you the easy solution: our printable Morning Routine Chart.

This free checklist is completely customizable to your desired daily routine, and visually shows your child what tasks they need to do next.

So instead of waking up and wondering, “what do I do now?”, your kids can easily stay on track, and work towards independently completing their chart. This will not only boost your child’s confidence and give them a sense of accomplishment, but will lessen the overall stress level of your mornings, and help everyone get out the door on time. High five to that!

WHAT YOU GET (FOR FREE!)

The Morning Routine Printable includes everything you see above: the chart template that you’ll use to build your routine + your task cards.

The chart comes in two colors (pink and light blue), and 2 sizes. You can choose from the regular Letter size (8.5’ x 11”) that’s easy to print at home, or opt for the larger Ledger size (11” x 17”) that some at-home printers can handle, or can be uploaded to an online printing service.

There are 28 task cards that include the most common morning tasks like making the bed, getting dressed, eating breakfast and packing a backpack.

With the current COVID situation, we’ve even included a “Take Temperature” task card that will help everyone remember to double check before heading out the door.

If you’re looking for a new thermometer that’s fast and extremely accurate, our favorite is the Fora IR42 Forehead Thermometer. It takes only ONE second to get a reliable reading! You simply put it 1-2 inches away from your forehead (no contact!) and press the button. There’s a large LCD display that shows red for a fever and green for normal. It’s so simple to use that your kids can do it themselves, making it easy for them to check off their chart.

The IR42 also has an auto-off feature, so when your child inevitably forgets to turn it off, the batteries aren’t drained. It also saves the last 30 temperature readings for easy tracking.

For peace of mind with 1 second readings at the touch of a button, everyone needs a FORA IR42 right now!

We also highly recommend the FORA O2 SpO2 Fingertip Pulse Oximeter which can measure your blood oxygen level and pulse rate quickly and easily at home.

In these current times with COVID-19, this can be extremely valuable should someone in your family become ill.

You can also connect it via Bluetooth to the free iFORA O2 app to monitor your sleep, perform a Heart Rate Variability Analysis and to assist with resonant breathing exercises. Along with the FORA IR42, it’s an extremely handy tool to have on-hand in your home.

We’ve also included plenty of blank task cards so you can completely customize them to your routine, and what you’d like your kids to work on.

Print the chart color your child prefers + all of the task cards. We recommend printing on a thicker stock paperso it can handle some wear ‘n’ tear. Alternatively, if you have one of these handy laminators, you could laminate the chart and cards!

For the next step you’ll need these Velcro stickers. Attach one side to the task card, and one side to the chart. Just make sure that you don’t mix and match the sides (ie. the “hook” side should always be on the chart, and the “furry” side should always be on the cards) so you can easily move the cards around.

Now start building your child’s morning routine on the “To Do” side. Place the cards in order so they can quickly transition from one task to the next. If you need more spaces for tasks, we’ve included a 2nd chart that you can stack below.

Instruct your child to move the task card from the “To Do” side, to the “Done” side once they have completed it.

And once all the cards are on the “Done” side, give them a big hug for completing their morning routine!

The more they complete the tasks, the easier they will become, until one day, they won’t need the chart at all! It will just have become their established routine.

If you haven’t already downloaded the template, add you email to the box below and we’ll send it to you right away:

  3. Thank you so much for the printable morning and evening charts. So excited to start using them and hopefully reduce the stress of our transition routines. Any chance you have one for after school (ie. unpack backpack, clean lunch box, do homework, wash hands, etc)? I searched and didn’t find it but perhaps I’m just overlooking it. It would be such a lovely addition to our other new charts! 🙂
